The Society of Information Technology Management (SOCITM) NI
The Society of Information Technology Management was founded in 1986 as the professional association for ICT managers working in and for the public sector.
Members are drawn primarily from local authorities but also from the police and fire services, housing authorities and other locally delivered public service.
Managers or consultants from organisations supplying ICT products and services to the public sector, or which support public services in other ways, may also join the Society.
With over 1900 members from 550 different organisations including 98% of all UK local authorities, Socitm provides a widely respected forum for the promotion, use and development of ICT best practice. It also plays a leading role in the implementation of local e-government in the UK.
SOCITM NI was formed in January 2005 and represents the interests of local IT managers in Northern Ireland. The branch holds regular meetings and quarterly public events each year.
SOCITM NI has over 70 members made up of representatives from central and local government and the local supplier community.

Greenshoots-Newry
Greenshoots-Newry Ltd (Greenshoots) is a new initiative designed to support economic development in the Newry and Mourne area and is a joint venture between Southern Regional College and the University of Ulster. It is the first Business Incubation Centre in the FE sector in Northern Ireland and its aims are to:
* Promote enterprise and innovation among present and pastgraduates
* Support individuals or companies with business ideas that have high growth and employment potential
* Stimulate higher levels of research and development among small companies in the area

IQ360
IQ360 is a Southern Regional College programme engaging with Dundalk Institute of Technology to showcase the entrepreneurial support services available at Greenshoots Incubation and Innovation Centre in Newry and at the Regional Development Centre in Dundalk. Greenshoots is a joint initiative of the Southern Regional College and the University of Ulster.
Through the success of the IQ360 programme, it is expected that a greater number of graduate expatriates and internationally mobile "would be" entrepreneurs will locate to this cross-border region to establish knowledge-based ventures. Indeed several may have already successfully started a venture already. The programme also aims to recruit talented professionals with early stage business ideas, who commute daily out of the region to cities such as Dublin and Belfast.
