  • Since 2010 Allstate Northern Ireland’s XtheTXT road safety campaign, in partnership with the Police Service of Northern Ireland and DOE, has led the way in promoting the dangers of texting whilst driving, delivering workshops to more than 18,000 students across the province to date.

Northern Ireland’s largest IT Company is continuing their efforts to raise awareness and encourage safety behind the wheel by asking teams or individuals of 15-22 year olds from Secondary Schools, Colleges and Universities across Northern Ireland to take part in their APP IT OUT! competition and come up with creative ideas for an XtheTXT mobile app.

The lucky winners will receive £500 for their school, the opportunity to participate in a mobile app development session at the Allstate NI Belfast office as well as a trip to a local restaurant and cinema with classmates.

Once developed, the XtheTXT app will be available free of charge on both the Apple App Store and Google Play. The Allstate NI XtheTXT team will be promoting the app throughoutNorthern Ireland, encouraging students to download the app to always have road safety awareness information at their fingertips.

Rosie Leech, PSNI Road Policing Unit, said, “Allstate NI has always been proactive in highlighting the dangers of using a mobile phone whilst driving to young people across Northern Ireland. This competition provides another fun way to encourage students to take road safety seriously as well as giving them the opportunity to get involved in IT. Both the DOE and the PSNI are excited to be on the judging panel and I personally can’t wait to see the entries.”

If you are a teacher and would like your students to participate in the APP IT OUT! competition, please email ANIMarketing@allstate.com to register individuals or teams from your School, College or University. If you are a student, bring this information to your teacher and encourage them to get involved!

Participants are asked to submit their ideas by Friday 5th December and judging will take place the following week with winners being notified shortly after.
