  • BCS and Fujitsu join forces for ‘Hybrid IT’ event to identify the possibilities for Northern Ireland businesses

The Belfast Branch of BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT and Fujitsu, the leading Japanese information and communication technology (ICT) company, joined forces with other businesses at the Ramada Plaza in Belfast to explore how companies here can benefit from Hybrid IT.

Hybrid IT provides an integrated IT environment, designed to help organisations maximise both their cloud based and on-premise IT services – while still enabling innovation, improved productivity and business growth.  The process aggregates and manages all IT services, both traditional and cloud based while also managing risk, cost management and governance issues.

Local companies from across the public and private sector attended the event, where they discussed the challenges they are facing and the possibilities presented by Hybrid IT in today’s business climate. Delegates heard from experts on the subject, Brad Mallard, Fujitsu UK & Ireland’s Chief Technology Officer for Cloud, Head of Technical Consultancy for Fujitsu Digital, Ste Nadin, and Andrew Bartlam EMEA Vice President for CipherCloud.

Speaking about the need for Hybrid IT, Ste Nadin, Fujitsu said:

“Over 50 percent of businesses globally now invest in cloud services – at a cost of $72 billion last year – but the issue of integrating and managing cloud alongside existing on-premises systems is becoming more complex and can lead to a range of challenges including increased costs, additional security risks and the potential to result in less productivity and growth.  Getting your approach correct to cloud and adopting Hybrid IT is pivotal. This equips companies with the leadership and management, process and policy and importantly the tools that can aggregate all of the systems they have – enabling monitoring, recording and billing.  At Fujitsu, we have already helped over 5,000 businesses adopt Hybrid IT and to harness the power of the cloud effectively by striking the perfect balance between innovation and safety and between delivery and costs.”

Speaking about the event Rachel McKane, Vice Chair & Event Coordinator at the BCS NI said:

“According to a recent Ernst and Young survey, 25% of firms said that the use of cloud computing had made them more at risk of being attacked or harmed in the last 12 months. Despite the fact that cloud based computing is the future, it is important to remember that it will continue to co-exist with traditional IT for the foreseeable future. With this in mind, it will be important for local organisations to realise the challenges and opportunities that Hybrid IT presents. This event was a great way for both public and private sector companies to learn how Hybrid IT can minimise risk and maximise the opportunities by ensuring IT takes the lead on educating the wider business on managing risk and governance processes, while still delivering innovation.”
