On Friday 29 May, Andy Haldane will headline a rapid‑paced session focused on ways to maximise Northern Ireland’s competitive edge. Hosted by NI Chamber in partnership with KPMG, ‘Competing to Win’ will take place at W5, Belfast, at 10.30am.
The event will bring together influential voices to explore what the current local and global context means for Northern Ireland and, crucially, what comes next for business.
Encouraging senior leaders to attend, Suzanne Wylie, Chief Executive, NI Chamber, said:
“This promises to be a really interesting session, where stand‑out speakers will apply big‑picture thinking to Northern Ireland’s future position on the world stage. We are inviting business leaders from all sectors of our economy to join us for a high‑energy, probing session focused on maximising Northern Ireland’s competitive edge.”
A former Chief Economist at the Bank of England and current President of the British Chambers of Commerce, Andy Haldane will reflect on what works (and what doesn’t) in the UK Industrial Strategy, the need for government stimulus and the importance of entrepreneurialism.
Sean O’Driscoll, CEO at Roaring Waters and a member of Ireland’s Accelerating Infrastructure Taskforce, will examine how Ireland is using infrastructure investment and accelerating its Action Plan on Competitiveness and Productivity to attract investment and support growth, drawing out what Northern Ireland should take from that experience.
Margaret Hearty, Chief Executive at InterTradeIreland, will outline how and why cross‑border trade has rapidly increased and the opportunity this presents. Ashleen Feeney, Partner, KPMG in Northern Ireland, and Chair of NI Chamber’s Competitiveness Committee, will contrast this with how Northern Ireland is positioning itself right now and what needs to change.
Fast‑paced presentations will get straight to the point, provoking discussion in a conversation facilitated by Professor Jodie Carson, Professor of Strategic Policy in Practice at Ulster University.
‘Competing to Win’ is free to attend. To register, visit NI Chamber’s website.
